A recent project involved the installation of linoleum flooring in a kitchen located on Balcombe Road, Horley, Surrey. The existing subfloor consisted of wooden floorboards, which required proper preparation to ensure a smooth and stable surface for the new linoleum.
To achieve this, a 6mm plywood underlayment was first fitted over the wooden floorboards. This plywood was securely fastened using ring shank nails to prevent any movement. Following the installation of the plywood, a layer of Ardex Feather Finish was applied to smooth out the joints and create an even surface, ensuring an optimal base for the linoleum.
On the subsequent visit, a paper template of the kitchen floor was meticulously created. This template was then used to precisely cut the linoleum to the exact dimensions needed. The linoleum had been previously back-rolled, opened up, and laid flat in another area to acclimate and prevent any curling or misalignment during installation.
The pre-cut linoleum was then adhered to the prepared plywood subfloor using a specific adhesive designed for linoleum, ensuring a strong and lasting bond. During the installation, careful attention was given to push out any air bubbles to achieve a smooth, flawless finish. Finally, the seams were hot welded to create a seamless, water-resistant surface, enhancing both the durability and aesthetic appeal of the kitchen floor. The result is a beautifully finished, durable linoleum floor that complements the kitchen space and stands up to daily use.
